How the new year signifies all that you were needing to start fresh, start over, keep hustling, and grind harder than ever.

2020 – New Beginnings

Here we are again, at the start of another new year. We have arrived at the beginning again, or at least it can feel that way.

I encourage everyone to believe in the power of a new year. It can signify whatever you want it to.

This is the year you go back to school. This is the year you lose the weight. This is the year you write a book. This is the year you start your first business. This is the year. START TODAY.

We are in a unique position in the beginning of January to clean the slate of the past and really dive into our goals, our wants, our needs.

What do you need to do to start pursuing what you truly want? Do you need to stop lying about what you want? Yes! Do you need to write down your goals? Yes! Do you need to be grateful for how far you’ve already come? HELL YES!

Here are some of my goals for the New Year, maybe, some of these goals are yours too.

1. Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

You know you’ve been pushing off signing up for that class. You know the one where you may have to interact with people you don’t know. The class that will take up your precious time you already feel like you don’t have. The class that might cost a bit of money you’d rather spend on expensive Starbucks drinks and eating out for lunch.

Stop. Sign up for the class. Go out and do something that is new and exciting. Dive into something you’ve been meaning to do for ages but never had the guts, the courage, the money, the time for, and all the other excuses you made up. Because before, it wasn’t a priority. Make it a priority.

Do it because it's little scary. Do it because you are a bit nervous. You never know how living on the edge of your comfort zone has killed your soul so slowly. Bring yourself to life again. Go do it!

2. Journal/Write Something Meaningful

There is so much power in writing out your thoughts. In spilling your inner feelings and emotions onto a blank page that soaks up your every word. Letting out your voice on paper is freeing. It helps to break up your day and take a different view at your life.

It is crazy what happens when you mindlessly journal and soon find it becoming a lesson, a moment of self-reflection, an idea for your next steps, and a wonderful opportunity for change and growth.

Sit down and write, lie down and write, pull out your computer and type, however you feel comfortable just do it. You will not regret a few moments of letting your brain escape the confides of your skull, letting it find a home on a piece of paper. Talk about stress relief.

3. Self- Discipline

This is my biggest skill I want to develop in the new year. Especially when it comes to my eating habits, sleeping habits, social habits, and exercise habits.

Eating Habits: Eat healthy. Have a salad more often than you have a burger. Have a banana instead of reaching for a donut. Drink black coffee instead of getting the flavor of the month at Starbuck or Dunkins. Drink water when you feel hungry after you just ate a big meal. Drink more water than you thought possible before. When you think of eating a million chips with salsa and guacamole because it will be soo good, do it, but make it like 15 chips instead of the whole bag. Eat in moderation and don’t hate on yourself when you have a little treat. But have those treats rarely instead of EVERY DAY.

Sleeping Habits: Try and go to bed around the same time everyday and wake up at the same time every day. Go to bed early enough so you can wake up earlier and have time for breakfast, a light workout, a walk, a moment of gratitude for the day ahead, for quality one on one, family, or "me" time.

Social Habits: Meet and talk to more people. Learn about what make others happy and joyful for life. Do something social at least twice a month that isn’t related to work. Trust people more while also following your instincts and gut feelings. Be open to new amazing relationships, let people get to know you and try to get to know them. Pray for your family more, pray for your friends more, pray for others more.

Exercise Habits: Stand up, walk, stretch, run, jump, swim, dance, yep, definitely DANCE. Move your body like it’s the only home you’ve got, like it’s the only body that you’ll ever have. Treat your body with love. Whatever gets your heart pumping, body sweating, and legs burning, go and do it! Exercise because you know how good you feel after. Exercise because you love the way you look when it changes into the person you always saw yourself as. Exercise because you know it is so healthy for you mind as well as for your curves.

Keep making new goals and revising old ones. You are in control of how this year turns out. Go after it!
