When I’m surrounded by dirt, I feel dirty. When I’m surrounded by a mess, I feel messy. If you look around you, what do you see? If what you see gives you feelings of helplessness or exhaustion, maybe its time to get up, and clean. Whether that be literally cleaning the mess around you or seeing your environment and what you cannot bear any longer and fixing it, or letting it GO.
Getting up and working can be mentally draining. But, the here and the now is the tough part, the after, the feeling of accomplishing a big task, is the reward.
Sometimes when I feel lazy or drained for too long, I try to begin to understand the why. Why do I feel this way? Is there something causing me to feel like I’m stuck or helpless in my life? Most of the time it’s a simple change of environment that can reset my mood. Even if other factors are bringing me down, like my job, my car, the bills etc., I know I can at least have control over one thing quickly. My house, where I live can be a place of relaxation and peace again.
This post is to tell you that even a simple change in the place you live can bring about a fresh new perspective to get you motivated and happy again.

Does the sight of laundry piling up bring you dread? Are the dishes stacking up in the sink? Is the carpet littered with dust and dirt? No matter how big or how small the mess, it can cause feelings of anxiety and disorganization that leaves us feeling defeated before we even begin. But that mess will grow, it will get bigger if you do not tackle it.
Cleaning your space will refresh your soul and your mind. Que motivational, uplifting, fun and INSPIRING music. Use Pandora, Spotify, or YouTube. Your fave playlist will set the mood for good energy. Next, get a hair tie. Pull your hair back and tie it up. Go change your clothes, put on a sports bra if you need to, shorts and a t-shirt. Getting mentally ready sometimes takes getting physically ready, so look the part of a determined person, ready to tackle your mission, and win.
You are in control of your environment you live in, so act like it. Start by organizing all the dirty clothes into piles, then throw a load in the wash. Then you can start on your next task, picking up the trash and dishes around the house. Organize the dirty dishes in a way that you can do a load prioritized to dishes you use a lot more. Keep cleaning and keep the music playing. Don’t forget to take time to eat, drink water and relax. A couple breaks here and there are needed. Its not done until at least half of the tasks are done that day. This might take your entire weekend, or your days off from work to accomplish. But remember, its tough now, so you can enjoy it later.

I literally used to feel a pain in my stomach from the anxiety, the thought of having to clean up my own mess, sometimes even the mess of others living with me as well. But I realized that the mess is controllable, I just had to start and get it all taken care of one weekend, and from there, all I had to do was keep up with it. It took months for me to make a routine, I’m still working on it now. But, the repeated issue of letting the house get out of control, taming it, then repeating the pile up was exhausting and draining. It is much easier to maintain.
A lot of people know the old saying, don’t shit where you eat. Its true, why would you surround yourself with chaos. Keep it clean, life is messy, but you CAN take care of it.

The reason I share this is to help. It helped me tremendously. I have had issues with anxiety in the past. I found out where it would stem from and I’ve found some ways to control it. My house was one of them, but it didn’t have to be. It doesn’t have to be for you either.
