If you haven’t already jumped on the bandwagon, jump on! This is a ride that everyone should enjoy, no matter where you are at in life, no matter if you’re starting your journey to self-love or already practicing it every day.
What I’m talking about is the practice of speaking, thinking, and believing in positive affirmations.
Now you might ask, “what is a positive affirmation?”
A #positiveaffirmation is a statement that helps to mitigate negative thinking patterns. They are the building blocks to positive changes in your life. The more often you repeat them and especially believe in them the better your brain will feel, the better you will feel.
These are statements which affirm something to be true. So when you say, for example, “ I am good enough,” you are speaking it into the universe and speaking it into yourself, affirming that you are good enough. You are good enough for love, for happiness, for money, for security, for anything that you might have doubted in yourself before.

Think about it this way. How many times have you said, “ I can’t”? When you say you can’t do something, you are already putting doubt into your mind, your body, your abilities, and your willpower to be able to do that thing. Saying “I can’t” is a negative affirmation that you’ve been repeating for years. Stop.
Instead, if you are learning something new, trying something old again, or just working on something you find difficult in general, use positive affirmations and positive words.
Instead of saying, “ I can’t do a pull-up,” say “ I am working on doing a pull-up” or even better, “ pull-ups are easy for me to do.” Instead of saying, “I will never lose this weight,” say “ I am working on losing weight” or better, “ I will lose this weight.”
We all have a tendency to get caught up in a negative talk track, we can be our own worst enemies. So, practice self-care by stopping negative thinking patterns.
When you find yourself doubting your abilities or getting wrapped up in negative emotions or statements, think of another way to word what you are thinking/saying.
Find the time to speak to yourself, out loud, or even better write down the negative thoughts and limiting statements you’ve been repeating to yourself. (Bonus: if you write them down you can ceremoniously burn them later, which is a way of telling yourself and the universe that you are ready to let go of that way of thinking)
It’s important to identify the negative beliefs you have in order to make a change to those beliefs.
It may seem silly and embarrassing when you are doing these things, but believe me, you are only helping yourself by working on these practices. It is not like you have to stand in the middle of a crowded area and shout out “I am beautiful” or “ I am open to receiving more money.” This is something that you do on your own, in your personal space, or maybe even with people who you trust and love.
So, identify those negative words you’ve been speaking to yourself and turn them around, even if you don’t quite believe it yet, even if it seems silly, even if it seems scary.
You can only create a more positive head-space if you are willing to be kind to yourself and if you are willing to change the way you speak to yourself.
Below is a list of some negative affirmations you may say and then the positive affirmations you can choose to start saying.
